In August 2012, I emailed the director of CRU at University of Arizona, Chris Warren, asking if it would be possible to launch an Epic Movement on campus (because I saw the need for my Asian American classmates who did not know Christ). I got a crazy email back from Chris saying that they had been praying for someone to start an Epic Movement for a long time and another CRU Ethnic Field Ministry member had flown in that night to Tucson. I met with Chris, another CRU staff, and five other students the next day talking about the possibility of launching an Epic at UA. Through the planning process, three of the six leaders had other commitments and dropped leadership. Through the craziness, the Core leadership team started planning the launch for the upcoming Spring 2013 semester by holding events in order to spread the word about Epic.
As for launch week, our planning greatly paid off. We were blessed to have willing volunteers to help us table on campus the first week of school. We received 80 contacts and 40 of those came to the first weekly meeting. Since then, our revamped leadership team has been restored by four new people and we have been blessed immensely by their heart to serve.
Our weekly meetings have taken off and have been going well. We are progressing into men and women small groups starting the first week of March. We have also started discipling our leaders so that they can turn around and do the same in the future.
Please be praying for us in these ways:
- Keeping our walk and our growth in Christ our number one priority
- Unity and growth within our group solely through Christ
- To make Christ known by effectively spreading the Gospel
- Through Epic, create a pure and encouraging Christ centered community
- That the members become connected through small groups
